Overwatch World Cup Predictions: Americas
Is Canada on fraud watch? Will Puerto Rico spawncamp Brazil? Can anyone take a map from the USA?
The Overwatch World Cup is back, and the Online Qualifiers kick off May 30th in the Americas. Two groups of four teams will play a single round robin to send 4 teams to the Group Stage in Busan, South Korea.
Who do I think will advance? Read on to find out.
Americas A
🇨🇦 CAN
🇨🇴 COL
🇧🇷 BRA
🇵🇷 PUR
CAN 3-0 COL
PUR 3-1 BRA
Puerto Rico’s NA experience will outmatch Brazil’s Korean coaching.
CAN 3-0 BRA
This match could be one of those close 3-0s, where Brazil keeps some maps competitive but can’t get over the finish line.
PUR 3-1 COL
CAN 3-2 PUR
I think Canada will be more afraid of Brazil and Colombia, leading them to possibly overlook Puerto Rico.
BRA 3-2 COL
Advancing: Canada, Puerto Rico
Oh boy, this is the group of banter. The LATAM squads in this group are circling Canada like sharks; they think they can pick off Canada and make a statement. I think Canada’s floor is too high to be eliminated, but it might not be pretty.
Americas B
🇺🇸 USA
🇲🇽 MEX
🇨🇱 CHI
🇦🇷 ARG
USA 3-0 MEX
This year’s USA squad will take things much more seriously than 2023. I don’t imagine they will off-role or troll and drop a map like the 2023 team did.
CHI 3-0 ARG
USA 3-0 ARG
MEX 3-2 CHI
Chile, my beloved, lo siento profundamente. I want you to win, I will be rooting for you, but I can’t predict against a team with three players who made OWCS promotion/relegation. It’s a DhillDucks world, and we’re all living in it. Chile has a chance, especially if they can avoid Cassidy and put their Hitscan on Freja or Sojourn instead, where he is stronger.
USA 3-0 CHI
MEX 3-1 ARG
Advancing: United States, Mexico
That Mexico-Chile game could be one of the best of the tournament. I give Mexico the edge but Chile could absolutely win. Argentina is clearly the weakest team, they needed Lep’s miraculous Sound Barrier to beat Peru in the Conference Cup, but I don’t think they will be completely outmatched against Chile or Mexico. The United States would have to troll to drop a map, though, and that Team Liquid core seems to take things pretty seriously.
